10:14 am	When I refuse to work Like most IT people, my job is my life. But there are very specific incidents where I will refuse to work 1) Zombie Attack (you know you agree.. is your survival kit ready) 2) Major UFO sighting 3) I am vomiting.. colds, fever, heartburn no problem.. upchuck no way! 4) Release of Harry Potter movies or books 5) I find out that there will be a new season of Firefly (that is cause for immediate celebration...) 3:54 pm	AT&T fuck-tards I gotta tell you. I am super spoiled by dealing with TWTelcom. (i.e. I get a REAL engineer on the line in like 5 minutes. you know... a real engineer who knows what smtp, tcp, udp, dns, clear crypto, 3des, vpn and all that jazz that i use every day actually means) So AT&T changed their mail servers over to use an at&t branded yahoo site. OK... so, for those of us who use a client to check our email, we need to change the pop and smtp settings. No biggie. Until you talk to the fucktards in "tech support". It is obvious from the get go, who is the more tech savy individual. Me: Hey, I need the new smtp and pop settings for the email servers "tech": ok.. one moment (clickety clickety.. i need to look this up in the book.. what does smtp mean anyway) Ok.. its smtp.att.yahoo.com Me: does the smtp server require authentication her: i think so Me: ok.... do i need to use an ssl connection her: No Me: do i need to change the smtp port number her: umm... oh wait.. you will need to change the port number to 465 Me; Ok so it IS an ssl connection her: (silent for like 2 minutes) do you have any more questions Me: (thinking--none that you can actually answer, but i ask anyway) Did you change the pop server settings as well? her: (doesnt get it) Me: can you give me the server name for the pop server? her: mail.att.yahoo.com Me: would that also be ssl (i know i was being a bitch at this point... but she was retarded.. no wait calling her retarded is an insult to the retards.) her: no me: uh huh.. so do i have a diffrent port number besides 110 on the pop server her: (drools for a few minutes) no. Me: (doesnt believe her) Uh, ok thanks (hang up) Clikety clickety, thank god some other poor bastard has actually been through AT&T tech support hell and actually posted the settings online THANK YOU POOR BASTARD! turns out pop is ssl too over 995... but we already knew that was likely since smtp was ssl. FOR CHRISTS SAKE AT&T HIRE A FEW FUCKING TEENAGERS TO BE YOUR "LEAD TECHS" IF YOUR TOO CHEAP TO TRAIN ADULTS OR PAY A REAL TECH TO OFFER SUPPORT. A REAL TECH SHOULD BE ABLLE TO RATTLE OFF MAIL SERVER SETTINGS WITHOUT EVEN BREAKING FROM PLAYING KINGDOM OF LOATHING (or the like). on another note.. i just got my "orange phone".. ya know the test sets that phone dudes have.. although mine is blue and grey.. they are pretty cool. i can tap right into my 66 block and listen to conversations if i want. but i could care less what they are saying. i just needed to get find out the freaking numbers of a few B1s and no one could look them up from a circut id. I aleady have a local farmer who is going to sell me 2 cute little young laying hens. Farm Fresh Eggs, theres nothing 'em. 4:56 pm	Last couple of fun things I did So Ive been out of the loop for quite a while. Maybe I'll just catch ya up on the recent fun stuff. Ok so I saw The Cure. Had Executive box seats. Yea, they are super nice. Had fun looking down on all the "peasants" =). Paid for overpriced drinks and a t-shirt. Had a really good time dancing around in all the space the suite had to offer =) Went to They Might Be Giants a few weeks ago. Loved it. This was the second time I saw them this year. I also saw them previously at the Neighborhood Theater where the stage is much bigger (they were at the Visualite this last time) both shows rocked. Although more stage=cooler effects. I am on a Skeeball league. Pretty damn cool. This is the second skeeson I have done. I play at Murphy's tavern on Thursdays. Its a blast and an excuse to knock back a few cold ones. Brewskeeball is pretty damn fun and super competitive. I am now currently formatting a laptop that one of my people killed. How the hell they kill so much equipment, I will never know. I also have a business trip to Chicago planned in August. That should be fun or if not fun, at least I will be drinking Grey Goose on the company. Gotta love that. 4:07 pm	Finally!!!! I have finally found a use for all those damn Dell and other tech magazines that people send you wanting you to buy crap for work. I was sending back part of an old phone system to Avaya and realized that I had no bubble wrap or peanuts. So I decide to stuff the box with the next best packing material... said trade magazines. Schweet! I recycled more than 1 tree today and cleaned out my mailbox! I think next time I will use out of date server and software manuals. I have quite a number of those hanging out too. *** On another note, beancounters fucking suck. I swear they are the dumbest damn bunch of bimbos that ever existed. One of them emailed me and my vendor (who happens to be a buddy of mine) saying.... "It appears that I am not receiving your invoices for payment until a later date. Could you please verify that you have my correct email address?" -Lemme get this straight.. you are accusing me of not doing my damn job properly???!!!! Umm excuse me I am not the one who loses shit all the time.. thats you. So I had to rip her a new asshole. I emailed her, said vendor buddy and her boss (plus my boss..get to that part in a bit)and mentioned that "the invoice was recieved on 4/27 at 8:30 am. It was aproved and emailed over to accounting the SAME DAY at 2:00 pm. I have to aprove them before they get paid and emailing me directly is the fastest way to do this." So I mail my boss with the "I feel this was very rude and unprofessional. I do not insult her to her vendors and I would apreciate if she returned the favor." Plus a whole bunch of other junk that tells my boss "nicely" what a moron she is... i.e. if she read the message, she would have relized it was handled by me in about 6 hrs. Oh and by the way this is not the 1st time something like this has happened. I would have ignored it if it had been.(BTW my boss is her boss's boss.. which means I outrank her..I am on her boss's level.. oh yea I answer to the CFO&CEO =) So anyways the point of the whole story is dont fuck with your SysAdmin at work. We will prove you wrong. Especially if you have the IQ of a wad of chewing gum. You just made yourself a target. I can, if i wish, make your life miserable. Remember, I read your email. I watch you surf the net, I control your login sessions and what info you can access. Plus soo much more.... I am still waiting for the day when someone pisses me off so much, I download goat porn and stick it on their harddrive, then make that run at startup with the speakers full blast (thanks to Monty Python for that idea). 10:07 am	eh. Another day in paradise. Can I go home yet? I have some BS paperwork to do. I freaking hate papterwork & documenting. Its all in my head, why bother? No one else around here knows how to do my job. Oh, speaking of my head. It was amusing yesterday in my meeting. My bosses were drilling me on what type of helmet I have. Apparantly I have too much of their information in my head for it to go spilling out out on the pavement =) I guess they wanted to make sure I am protecting whats in my head. Ohhh ATTENTION UBER GEEKS!!!! I am looking for code for a calendar app that would allow me to generate a "followup schedule" based on which ever start date I selected. I.E. I stick in June 1st. The calander tells me in 1 week on June 8th I need to have an appointment schedueld. Its for a regimin my docs want to do for their patients who recieved transplants. Based off of transplant date, they should see a doc on this date, this date and this date.
